Nitrous Oxide for Children

Nitrous oxide is a safe and effective sedation agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your child’s nose to help you relax.

Nitrous oxide, sometimes referred to as “laughing gas,” is one option your dentist may offer to help make your son or daughter more comfortable during a certain procedures. Often, children present with decay in multiple teeth and using local anesthesia in multiple sites can be traumatic. Nitrous oxide is often enough to keep your child comfortable during restorative treatment and spare them the dreaded “needle”. There are no after affects and the only requirement beforehand is that they not have a full belly. And if we avoid the local anesthesia they can eat immediately after the procedure.
